Variants, weights and fuel
The C90A max takeoff weight is 9650 lb on s/n LJ-1063 to LJ-1137 and LJ-1146, and 10100 lb on later aircraft. The C90GT and C90GTi use PT6A-135A engines at 10100 lb, or 10545 lb with an STC. The E90 carries 392 US gal usable in the main tanks and 82 gal in the auxiliary tanks. Each baggage area is limited to 350 lb.
Inspections and records
The CASA main landing gear torque knee AD (FAA AD 2002-01-10) requires an inspection within 100 hours after 18 April 2002, then every 1,000 hours or less. Cracked knees must be replaced. Replacement with the new part numbers ends the repetitive inspections. The wing front spar AD covers all models. It requires an inspection before 5 years from manufacture, then at intervals of 1 year or less.
Avionics upgrade
A Garmin G1000 STC conversion is available for most King Air C90 series airplanes, but not all. Check serial number eligibility with Garmin. It brings dual 10.4-inch PFDs and a 15-inch MFD. It removes the AC inverters and gives RVSM eligibility above 28,000 ft. Dash 135 engine conversions are approved for the retrofit.
Safety notes
- In at least four fatigue-crack cases, the main landing gear separated from the aircraft (torque knee AD background).
- A 1980-built King Air 90 (F90) landing gear collapsed after a motor bearing failed and a loose cover plate restricted the manual crank. Check both.
- Engine start: ITT limit is 1090°C. Starter limit is 40 seconds on, then 60 seconds off.
