Overview

This document is a checklist specifically designed for the Cessna 150 aircraft. It provides a comprehensive set of procedures and checks that pilots should follow before, during, and after flight operations. The checklist includes critical safety checks, engine start procedures, pre-takeoff and landing checks, as well as emergency procedures. It serves as a supplementary guide to the Pilot's Operating Handbook (POH) and emphasizes the importance of thorough checks to ensure safe flight operations. Pilots are reminded that this checklist should not be considered authoritative but rather a tool to enhance safety and operational efficiency.

  • Fuel selector must be 'On' and sufficient fuel is required before flight.
  • Oil pressure should rise within 30 seconds after engine start.
  • Throttle should be set to 1200 RPM before takeoff.
  • Emergency procedures must be followed in case of engine failure or fire.
  • All switches should be turned off after landing and the aircraft secured.

Preflight Inspection

The preflight inspection includes checks of the fuel quantity, oil level, and overall aircraft condition. Pilots should ensure that the fuel selector is set to 'On' and that the fuel is sufficient for the planned flight. Other checks include verifying the condition of the tires, control surfaces, and securing loose articles in the cockpit.

Engine Start Procedures

Before starting the engine, ensure that the master switch is 'On', and the throttle is set to 1/4" open. The mixture should be set to 'Rich', and the carburetor heat should be in the 'Cold' position. After confirming that the area is clear, engage the starter and monitor the oil pressure, which should rise within 30 seconds.

Before Takeoff Checks

Prior to takeoff, the pilot must ensure that the flaps are set to 'Up', the landing light is 'On', and the transponder is set correctly. The throttle should be set to 1200 RPM, and the mixture should be adjusted to 'Full Rich'. A final check of the instruments and a clear area check are essential.

Emergency Procedures

The checklist includes various emergency procedures such as engine failure during takeoff, electrical failure, and engine fire in flight. Pilots are instructed to land as soon as possible in the event of an engine fire and to follow specific protocols for electrical overload and engine roughness.

Shutdown Procedures

After landing, pilots should follow the shutdown procedures which include turning off the master switch, securing the fuel selector to 'Off', and ensuring that all switches are turned off. The aircraft should be secured with the parking brake set.

Safety notes

  • This checklist must not be taken as authoritative; it should only supplement the Pilot's Operating Handbook.
  • Ensure the area is clear before starting the engine and engaging the starter.
  • Monitor engine instruments closely during flight for any abnormalities.
