Engine Failure During Takeoff Run

In the event of an engine failure during the takeoff run, pilots should immediately set the throttle to idle, apply brakes, retract wing flaps, cut off the mixture, turn off the ignition switch, and turn off the master switch.

Engine Failure Immediately After Takeoff

If the engine fails immediately after takeoff, maintain an airspeed of 65 KIAS with flaps down or 70 KIAS with flaps up. Ensure landing gear is down, cut off the mixture, close the fuel selector valve, and follow through with the emergency procedures.

Forced Landing – No Engine Power

For a forced landing without engine power, maintain an airspeed of 65 KIAS with flaps down or 70 KIAS with flaps up. Cut off the mixture, close the fuel selector valve, and ensure the ignition switch is off. Prepare for touchdown with the landing gear down and flaps as required.

Ditching Procedures

In the event of ditching, transmit an emergency call, set the transponder to 7700, and secure heavy objects in the baggage area. Establish a descent rate of 300 ft/min at 60 KIAS, approach into the wind, and prepare for evacuation after touchdown.

Electrical Fire in Flight

If an electrical fire occurs in flight, turn off the master switch and avionics power switch, close vents and cabin air, and activate the fire extinguisher if available. If necessary, turn the master switch back on to check for faulty circuits.

Safety notes

  • Warning: After discharging an extinguisher in a closed cabin, ventilate the cabin.
  • Caution: If more than ¼ inch of ice accumulates on wings, be prepared for higher stall speeds.

An unexplained loss of MAP could be caused by carburetor ice or air intake filter MIXTURE CONTROL LEAN if carburetor heat is used continuosly. LAND At nearest airport NOTE: With extremely rapid ice build up select a suitable “Off Airport” landing site. ICE ACCUMULATION If more than ¼ inches or more on wing leading edge be prepared for significantly higher stall speed. WING FLAPS With a severe ice build up on the horizontal tail, change in wing wake airflow direction caused by the wing flap extension could result in a loss of elevator effectiveness.
