This is due to insufficient weld penetration between the steel tubes. If the crack is left to propagate this could lead to a failure of the nose landing leg. REQUIRED ACTION Inspect the nose gear weld seam. TYPE OF MAINTENANCE Low. MINIMUM LEVEL OF CERTIFICATION Owner / Pilot. TIME OF COMPLIANCE Inspect immediately. After that, inspect in 25hr intervals until 100hr inspection. After this, the inspection interval can default to each annual inspection. METHOD OF COMPLIANCE Inspect the landing leg as shown in Figure 1. An example of what a crack could look like is shown in Figure 2. “Chipping” of the paint is a strong indication of a metal fatigue crack.
