A disbonded liner can cause premature main landing gear and main landing gear outboard bulkhead bushing wear. DESCRIPTION This service document provides parts and instructions to do a general visual inspection of the main landing gear bushing at the outboard support fitting for disbonded liner and replace the bushing if the liner is disbonded. COMPLIANCE MANDATORY. This service document must be accomplished at the next 100-hour or 12-month (annual-type) inspection, whichever occurs first. A service document published by Textron Aviation may be recorded as completed in an aircraft log only when the following requirements are satisfied: 1) The mechanic must complete all of the instructions in the service document, including the intent therein. 2) The mechanic must correctly use and install all applicable parts supplied with the service document kit. Only with written authorization from Textron Aviation can substitute parts or rebuilt parts be used to replace new parts. 3) The mechanic or airplane owner must use the technical data in the service document only as approved and published. 4) The mechanic or airplane owner must apply the information in the service document only to aircraft serial numbers identified in the Effectivity section of the document. 5) The mechanic or airplane owner must use maintenance practices that are identified as acceptable standard practices in the aviation industry and governmental regulations. No individual or corporate organization other than Textron Aviation is authorized to make or apply any changes to a Textron Aviation-issued service document or flight manual supplement without prior written consent from Textron Aviation. REFERENCES Cessna Model 172 (Series 1996 and On) Maintenance Manual PUBLICATIONS AFFECTED None ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS 1. Prepare the airplane for maintenance. A. Make sure that the airplane is electrically grounded. B. Make sure that all switches are in the OFF/NORM position. C. Disconnect electrical power from the airplane. (1) Disconnect external electrical power. (2) Disconnect the main airplane battery. D. Attach maintenance warning tags to the battery and external power receptacle that have "DO NOT CONNECT ELECTRICAL POWER - MAINTENANCE IN PROGRESS" written on them. 2. Remove the front seat(s) to get access to the fuselage floor. (Refer to Cessna Model 172 (Series 1996 and On) Maintenance Manual, Chapter 25, Equipment/Furnishings - Maintenance Practices.) 3. Pull up the carpet and remove the left and right floorboard access plates 231AT and 231CT. (Refer to Cessna Model 172 (Series 1996 and On) Maintenance Manual, Chapter 6, Access/Inspection Plates - Description and Operation.) 4. Remove the fuselage fairing. (Refer to Cessna Model 172 (Series 1996 and On) Maintenance Manual, Chapter 32, Main Landing Gear - Maintenance Practices, Fuselage Fairing.) 5. (Refer to Figure 1, Sheets 1 thru 3.) Do a general visual inspection of the 0541202-4 Bushing Assemblies installed in the left and right main landing gear outer support fittings. NOTE: During the general visual inspection of the 0541202-4 Bushing Assemblies if any of the polyurethane linear is squeezing out of the bushing housing then the 0541202-4 Bushing Assembly must be replaced. A. If both 0541202-4 Bushing Assembly liners are not disbonded, go to Step 8. B. If a 0541202-4 Bushing Assembly liner is disbonded, do the steps that follow to replace each bushing assembly: (1) Jack the airplane. (Refer to Cessna Model 172 (Series 1996 and On) Maintenance Manual, Chapter 7, Jacking - Maintenance practices.) (2) Remove the main landing gear. (Refer to Cessna Model 172 (Series 1996 and On) Maintenance Manual, Chapter 32, Main Landing Gear - Maintenance Practices, Main Landing Gear Removal/Installation.) (3) Remove and keep the two MS16624-1262 Retainers.

(4) Remove and discard the 0541202-4 Bushing Assembly from the outboard support fitting. Single Engine SERVICE LETTER MANDATORY SEL-32-08 (5) Clean the area. (Refer to Cessna Model 172 (Series 1996 and On) Maintenance Manual, Chapter 20, General Solvents/Cleaners - Maintenance Practices.) (6) Apply ROYCO 11 MS (or equivalent) Grease to approximately 11 inches on the top end of the tubular strut of the left and right main landing gear and to the outer surface of the new 0541202-4 Bushing Assembly. NOTE: Using any other grease other than a moly disulfide based grease may cause deterioration to the bushing liner material of the newly installed bushing assembly. NOTE: For ease of installation cool the 0541202-4 Bushing Assembly to 0 °F before the installation of the tubular strut. (7) Install the 0541202-4 Bushing Assembly in the outboard support fitting. (8) Install the kept two MS16624-1262 Retainers with the flat side of each retainer positioned towards the edge of the 0541202-4 Bushing Assembly. (9) Install the main landing gear and bleed the brakes. (Refer to Cessna Model 172 (Series 1996 and On) Maintenance Manual, Chapter 32, Main Landing Gear - Maintenance Practices, Main Landing Gear Removal/Installation.) (10) Remove the airplane from jacks. (Refer to Cessna Model 172 (Series 1996 and On) Maintenance Manual, Chapter 7, Jacking - Maintenance practices.) 6. Install the fuselage fairing. (Refer to Cessna Model 172 (Series 1996 and On) Maintenance Manual, Chapter 32, Main Landing Gear - Maintenance Practices, Fuselage Fairing.) 7. Install the left and right floorboard access plates 231AT and 231CT. (Refer to Cessna Model 172 (Series 1996 and On) Maintenance Manual, Chapter 6, Access/Inspection Plates - Description and Operation.) 8. Install the carpet and seat(s). (Refer to Cessna Model 172 (Series 1996 and On) Maintenance Manual, Chapter 25, Equipment/Furnishings - Maintenance Practices.) 9. Remove the maintenance warning tags and connect the airplane battery. 10. Make an entry in the airplane logbook that states compliance and method of compliance with this service document.
