ELECTRIC FUEL BOOST PUMPS 3-18-94 PURPOSE: THIS BULLETIN IS NECESSITATED BY THE FACT THAT SOME OF THE CARBON VANES IN THE OLDER PUMPS HAVE SHATTERED DUE TO THE INGESTION OF CONTAMINATES INTO THE PUMP. IN SOME CASES THESE PARTICLES HAVE FOUND THEIR WAY TO THE MAIN ENGINE FUEL PUMP AND CAUSED THE REED TYPE VALVES TO MALFUNCTION, RESULTING IN REDUCTION OR LOSS OF ENGINE POWER. NOTE: ANY PUMP EITHER NEW OR OVERHAULED BY DUKES INC. AFTER 1/1/88 ALREADY CONTAINS NYLATRON VANES. THESE PUMPS CAN BE IDENTIFIED BY EITHER A YELLOW DECAL ON THE BASE OF THE PUMP OR BY THE ASSEMBLY DATE WHICH IS STAMPED ON THE SIDE OF THE MOTOR ASSEMBLY. PUMPS IDENTIFIED AS CONTAINING NYLATRON WILL NOT REQUIRE SERVICE UNTIL THE TEN YEAR TRO HAS BEEN REACHED. The Overhaul With Parts Breakdown Manual may not be available at the time of this Service Bulletin release, however this manual is anticipated to be available in the near future. Kit provides parts and instructions only to replace carbon vanes with vanes made of nylatron. This does not constitute a pump overhaul Note 5 Any fuel pump either new or overhauled by Dukes Inc. after January 1, 1988 contains nylatron vanes. These pumps can be identified by either a yellow decal on the base of the pump or by the assembly date which is stamped on the side of the motor assembly. Pumps identified as containing nylatron vanes will not require văñé replacement until reaching the 10 year overhaul period. Note S Kit provides parts and instructions to overhaul fuel pump and to replace the vanes with vanes made of nylatron. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS Refer to the attached Dukes Mandatory Service Bulletin NO. 0001 (or latest revision) for instructions to accomplish this Service Bulletin. CREDIT Not applicable. ÓWNER NOTIFICATION On March 18, 1994 the following Owner Advisory message will be sent to applicable owners of record in MEB94-4A. Dear Cessna Owner, Dukes Inc. has issued Mandatory Service Bulletin NO. 0001 which states; *some of the carbon vanes in the older pumps have shattered due to the ingestion of contaminates into the pump. In some cases these particles have found their way to the main engine fuel pump and caused the reed type valves to malfunction, resulting in reduction or loss of engine power."
