Overview

This service bulletin (SB-68) addresses the installation of a new voltage regulator for the Helisport CH-7 Kompress and other models with the EPA 917 engine. It outlines mandatory compliance procedures for inspection and replacement to prevent potential damage and operational issues related to voltage regulation.

  • Mandatory installation of Voltage Regulator Atal 8000 and Card 7004.
  • Inspection required during the next pre-flight check.
  • Failure to comply may result in aircraft damage or personal injury.
  • The new regulator provides better voltage regulation and pilot warnings.
  • Installation must be performed by trained personnel.
  • Material costs and availability are provided by authorized sellers.
  • The aircraft must be returned to its original operating configuration post-installation.
  • Documentation of compliance must be recorded in the maintenance log.

SERVICE BULLETIN: # SB-68 DATE: 24 June 2019 TO: ALL TYPE WITH ENGINE EPA 917 INSTALLED AFFECTED PRODUCTS: CH77 Ranabot , CH7 Kompress Charlie , CH7 Kompress SUBJECT: VOLTAGE REGULATOR FOR EPA 917 INSPECTION: NEXT PRE -FLIGHT INSPECTION REPLACEMENT: MANDATORY COMPLIANCE PROCEDURE: S/B 68 Planning/Information Experience in the field has shown that the regulators installed on all Rotax and Epa engines are often damaged by suspending power supply without warning of failure. in the cases identified, the failure event can be associated with external operating temperatures of 25 degrees OAT or above. the damaged regulator does not warn the pilot with any type of information, the aircraft can fly with only one current generator if the pilot optimizes the services until the consumption is balanced with the current production, in the event that the pilot does not activate any action corrective, the battery voltage slowly begins to go down, this is the only information that the pilot can use to presume a fault in the regulator but strong absorption with a low battery voltage can create rapid and sudden and total voltage drops that can cause difficulties in operation of the engine management control unit. Helisport has developed a highly precise regulator that not only regulates the voltage in a balanced 14.2 volt fashion. +/- 0.5 but also to monitor trends and above all to inform the pilot with differentiated light warnings about failure situations, overloads, overheating, and voltage drops. The start of fan 1 (the big one) produces a starting current of about 140Amperes that represent three times that available from the 2 alternators together. This can cause a momentary collapse of the voltage of a few volts, which couldjeopardize the operation of on-board services, including the ignition / injection system, especially when the battery is low or defective. It is mandatory to install : Voltage Regulator Atal 8000,the new model 7004 fan card which limits the current tocue for 16 amperes for the large fan and 8 amperes for the small fan, thus avoiding overcoming the maximum current available from the alternators, install the Lockout Relay when the engine is already in operation. 1.2 Subject: Installation of the Atal 8000 voltage regulator and 7004 Card on all Helisport models with EPA 917 Ti engines.
