No. IA IB 23-03 Date: June 12, 2023 Page 1 of 1 Subject: Grand Junction Airport Construction Summer 2023 Area of Concern: Flight Operations Distribution: All Aviation Operations Discussion: Ongoing runway construction activities through mid to late July 2023 at the Grand Junction Regional Airport (GJT) may impact Grand Junction Airtanker Base operations.
Construction activities are scheduled for the following dates but may change based on weather or other factors affecting the progression of construction.
• June 2023 : Construction operations within the glidescope critical area will cause a multi-day outage.
After the construction has been completed, the glideslope will require an Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification flight check. The current anticipated date to resume glideslope operation is June 20th.
o Approach Impact – This impact has been confirmed with the FAA to switch the approach minimum from 200-1/2 to 400-3/4.
• June 13 to July 25: RWY 4/22 and TWY A connector closed for repaving.
• June 26 to July 16: RWY 29 threshold will be relocated due to construction on RWY 4/22. Construction crews will coordinate to prevent RWY 29 glidescope interference during operations.
o Approach Impact – During this time, the ILS 11, LOC 11, RNAV 29 and LDA/CME RW 29 will be unavailable. Based on historical trends, visual approaches are most common resulting in minimal impact. The RNAV 11 approaches should remain unaffected.
o Runway Length Impact – RWY 29 will be temporarily shortened by approximately 1,303ft.
o RWY 11/29 will experience nightly closures for related construction operations on June 26, July 15-16, between the hours of 0000 and 0600. The full length of RWY 11/29 will be available the morning of July 17. Two additional nights of construction related to the threshold relocation will occur in August while RWY 4/22 is grooved.
