No. IA IB 24-03 May 29, 2024 Page 1 of 2 Subject: Grand Junction Airport – Runway Shortened Area of Concern: Flight Operations Distribution: All Aviation Operations Discussion: As construction of a new (parallel) runway at the Grand Junction Regional Airport (GJT) continues, the airport has made some changes to current runway and taxiway operations that may impact Grand Junction Airtanker Base operations.
• Summer 2024 : The threshold for Runway 11(RWY 11) has been moved 1 , 164 feet east of the runway end.
o Reduce take-off and landing distance to 9,339 feet for both Runways 11 and 29.
• Summer 2024 : Taxiway A1 (TWY A1) has been permanently closed.
• Summer 2024 : Taxiway A2 (TWY A2) is now the access to RWY 11.
o Note: The new threshold is east of the intersection of TWY A2 and RWY 11. Aircraft will taxi a short distance along the old RWY 11 to the threshold. The Grand Junction Airport Authority has specified that departing aircraft are not to use the old RWY 11 surface, west of the new threshold, for take-off procedures.
The reduced available length on RWY 11 may impact Grand Junction Air t anker Base operations depending on aircraft performance capabilities given their respective weight and environmental factors. (i.e. higher density altitudes). These factors may result in reduced loads and incident operations should plan accordingly. There is no anticipated impact to SEAT, Air Attack, Leadplane, Smokejumper, or helicopter operations.
