Overview

This document serves as a supplement to the Pilot's Operating Handbook and FAA Approved Airplane Flight Manual for the Beechcraft Baron 58, 58A, and G58 models. It specifically addresses the installation of a V/G (Vortex Generator) system, which consists of 107 vortex generators designed to enhance aircraft performance by reducing stall and minimum control speeds. The supplement emphasizes the importance of adhering to the original performance specifications while utilizing the V/G system. It is essential for pilots to understand the limitations and operational procedures outlined in this document to ensure safety and compliance during flight operations.

  • V/G System consists of 107 vortex generators.
  • Minimum control speed (Vmca) is 74 KIAS.
  • Airspeed indicator markings include a white arc of 68-122 KCAS and a red radial at 74 KCAS.
  • If fewer than 107 vortex generators are installed, operate according to the original handbook.
  • Maximum altitude loss during stalls is 400 feet.

General

The V/G System consists of 107 vortex generators affixed to the wings and vertical stabilizer. Its primary purpose is to reduce stall and Vmca speeds by controlling boundary layer airflow. Pilots are advised to reference the original Pilot's Operating Handbook for performance specifications to maintain safety.

Limitations

Key limitations include the requirement of 103 vortex generators as a minimum. If fewer than 107 are installed, the aircraft must be operated according to the original handbook. Vmca values must be updated to 74 KCAS, and airspeed indicator markings are specified for safe operation.

Emergency Procedures

Emergency airspeeds are critical, with the minimum control speed (Vmca) set at 74 KIAS. Pilots must be aware of these speeds to ensure safe operation during emergencies.

Performance

Performance charts are referenced, indicating that stall speeds and other performance metrics should be consulted for safe operation. Specific stall speeds under zero thrust conditions are also noted.

Safety notes

  • Pilots should always reference the original Pilot's Operating Handbook for performance specifications.
  • The V/G system is intended to enhance safety but does not replace standard operating procedures.

The purpose of the V/G system is to reduce stall and Vmca speeds through control of boundary layer airflow Although the V/G System reduces stall and Vmca speeds, the pilot is encouraged to fly by reference to the performance specifications in the original Pilot’s Operating Handbook and FAA Approved Airplane Flight Manual to provide an increased margin of safety. LIMITATIONS 1. 103 vortex generators constitute the minimum requirement. If less than 107 vortex generators are in place, the aircraft must be operated in accordance with the original Pilot’s Operating Handbook and FAA Approved Airplane Flight Manual. 2.
