Overview

This document is a checklist for the Cessna 152, specifically designed to assist pilots in following normal and emergency procedures during flight operations. It is organized by phases of flight and includes critical checks that must be performed before, during, and after flight. The checklist emphasizes the importance of verifying information against the Pilot's Operating Handbook (POH) and is structured to enhance safety and efficiency in flight operations. It covers various operational parameters, pre-flight inspections, engine start procedures, and emergency protocols, ensuring that pilots are well-prepared for both routine and unexpected situations.

  • Initial climb speed: 65 KTS
  • Maximum takeoff weight: 1670 lbs
  • Best climb rate (VY): 67 KTS
  • Pre-flight inspection includes checking fuel quantity and control surfaces
  • In case of engine failure, glide speed is 65 KTS and suitable landing site must be selected

Parameters for Normal Operation

This section outlines the operational parameters for the Cessna 152, including maximum weights and indicated airspeeds for various phases of flight. For takeoff, the initial climb speed is 65 KTS, with a ramp weight of 1675 lbs and a takeoff/landing weight of 1670 lbs. The best climb rate (VY) is 67 KTS, and the best glide speed is 65 KTS. The maximum demonstrated crosswind velocity is 12 KTS.

Pre-Flight Inspection Internal

The internal pre-flight inspection checklist includes critical checks such as ensuring the parking brake is set, control wheel lock is removed, and the ignition switch is off. Pilots must check fuel quantity indicators, elevator trim, and ensure the master switch is on before proceeding with external checks.

Starting Engine

To start the engine, the pilot must ensure the propeller area is clear, open the throttle approximately ¼ inch, and set the mixture to rich. The master switch should be on, and the ignition switch should be turned to start. If the engine is flooded, specific procedures must be followed to restart.

Engine Failure During Flight

In the event of an engine failure during flight, the pilot should maintain a best glide speed of 65 KTS and select a suitable landing site. The fuel selector valve should be on, and carburettor heat should be set to hot. If the engine fails to respond, the mixture should be set to idle cut-off, and the fuel selector valve should be turned off.

Emergency Procedures

The checklist includes detailed emergency procedures for various scenarios, such as engine fire in flight, alternator failure, and electrical fires. Each procedure outlines specific actions to take, including communication protocols and equipment checks.

Safety notes

  • Always verify checklist information against the Pilot's Operating Handbook (POH) before use.
  • Ensure the propeller area is clear before starting the engine.
  • In case of an engine fire, evacuate the aircraft with the fire extinguisher in an upwind direction.

This checklist was compiled with reference to the Cessna 152 POH (pilot's operating handbook) and is not authoritative. It remains the pilot's responsibility to check/verify the information against the POH as well as to study the relevant procedures and familiarise themselves with the checklist before use. The REV (revision) date (bottom of page) is given in YYMMDD format; figures and charts were effective as of that date and may have changed since. Checklists are organised by phase of flight and should be used methodically; checklists only cross pages where clearly indicated by a header reading "CONTINUED" and are colour coded as follows: Grey/white (normal) items are to be checked/executed at all times. Blue checklists are memory items or procedures to be recalled in flight. Red checklists are for emergency and abnormal procedures, both in flight and on the ground. INDENTED sections of any colour are conditional depending on situation (e.g. "if engine cold").
