Electrical Fire in Flight

In the event of an electrical fire, pilots should turn off avionics, lights, and the master switch while keeping the engine running. The procedure emphasizes flying the aircraft, closing cabin vents, and shutting off fuel. If necessary, use a fire extinguisher and check circuit breakers without resetting them. After the fire is out, open vents and check the mixture and carb heat.

Power Loss in Flight

If experiencing power loss, the pilot should set the throttle to full open and continue cranking the engine. The master and mags should be turned off, and the fuel selector set to off. The pilot must locate a suitable landing area while monitoring fuel and engine gauges, and prepare for a potential landing without restart.

Carburetor Icing

In case of carburetor icing, maintain the best glide to the target landing site while applying carb heat. The mixture should be pulled out to idle cut-off, and the throttle set to full open. Pilots are advised to squawk 7700 and declare a Mayday if necessary.

Engine Fire in Flight

For an engine fire, the mixture should be pulled out to idle cut-off, and the fuel selector turned off. The master and mags should be switched off, and cabin vents and heat closed. Pilots must locate the best landing area and prepare for an emergency landing.

Power Loss After Takeoff

If power loss occurs after takeoff, pilots should aim for a straight-ahead landing if below 1000 feet AGL. The best glide speed is 60 knots. If above 1000 feet AGL, pilots may attempt a 180-degree turn to return to the runway if conditions allow.
